Woman in Love

Hard to believe, but Barbra Streisand, one of America’s most remarkable musical divas, turned 70 last week.

The most successful song of Streisand's music career is «Woman in Love».

It was written by two (out of three) Bee Gees brothers and proved very popular internationally.
Its a hard song to sing, especially to do it live…

In the middle of the song, Streisand holds a note for about 10 seconds while singing the line: «I stumble and fall / But I give you it all»
The word «all» is the one held for that 10-seconds duration (see min. 2.26-2.36)

There are so many different versions of the song…
A very “French” one by Mireille Mathieu – “Une femme amoureuse” (and Mireille holds a note for about 11 seconds – see min. 2.31-2.42)

But it’s a studio version…
And Lili Ivanova (from Bulgaria) holds the same note for 11-seconds live (see min. 2.12-2.23)

Other singers often fail to hold the note…
Like Filippa Giordano in a Spanish version of the song – “Me he enamorado de ti” (see min. 2.33-2.36)

But of course it´s not about “who does it better”.
Simply interesting…. Because this song is always nice to listen to — even if without famous long-lasting note.
Like this soft Arabic version by Sofia Marikh – “Tahwak”

Really a very special song…
